At the 15th Annual Big Apple Brownfield Awards, Ezgi Karayel delivered an inspiring speech reflecting on the shared achievements of the brownfield redevelopment community. Attending her 14th ceremony, she highlighted the collective resilience of environmental teams, legal experts, stakeholders, and regulators in overcoming challenges to create impactful projects.

This year’s award-winning projects exemplify the community’s commitment to equitable progress and sustainability. From aiding underserved communities to providing shelter for animals and employing innovative remediation methods, each project showcased the transformative potential of collaboration.

Karayel also announced a major milestone for the New York City Brownfield Partnership—the approval to issue Continuing Education Credits by the NYS Education Department. This initiative will expand the Partnership’s educational efforts, offering members valuable opportunities to advance their professional development.

She concluded by expressing gratitude to the Partnership’s board, volunteers, members, and event organizers Erik Draijer and Bill Fitchett. Karayel encouraged attendees to draw inspiration from the award-winning projects to continue advancing sustainable redevelopment.
